About our Performers:

David Earl and the Plowshares

David Earl Tomlinson is among Asheville, North Carolina’s more soulful singers and performers. Cutting his teeth as the token white guy singing gospel in the Kuumba and David Band, David Earl quickly gained a reputation as one to watch. Asthe Kuumba and David Band gave way to The Plowshares the focus switched to David Earl’s very strong original material. The2008 EP ‘Local Anesthesia’ was rated the 17th favorite regional release by the listeners of the local NPR station WNCW, and the band was among performers featured in a 2009 Summer primer of bands not to miss in WNC Magazine. After a short hiatus David Earl is back with an extended original rock and roll set list and band with phenomenal talent. Band members include Silas Durocher-Lead Guitar and Vox, Chris Pyle-Drums and Vox, Matt Lane-Bass and Vox.

The Gypsy Swingers

The Gypsy Swingers is an up tempo acoustic jazz band playing in a style reminiscent of European Swing Jazz , American Early Jazz with a little South American/Latin flavor. Its music to groove on or dance to. Although they play with more vocals and different arrangements of the standard tunes, they try to adhere to the basic feel of this exciting style of music without trying to be rigid in the interpretation. The band features guitar, stand-up bass, clarinet, flute and sometimes mandolin and violin. They also do some Latin tunes such as bossa novas and rumbas. Its a music that comes from our passion for making people feel so good they want to get up and dance. Band members include Mario Piccolo (guitar/vocals), Bohne Forsberg (bass),Wendi Loomis (clarinet/flute/vocals), Sean Mabe (guitar) and Luke Norton (mandolin). Upcoming shows at Antler Hill Village will feature the sultry voice of singer/songwriter Alina (aka Lady Q) a superb vocalist from New Orleans.

Freewheelin Mamas

The Freewheelin Mamas are three real-life “Moms” who discovered a kindred connection through friendship, motherhood and music. With extra energy and fantastic voices — their harmonies as an ensemble can’t be beat! Frequently seen around Asheville at various Open Mic events, they are ready to give us an sweet performance. Rumor has it they will be performing at LEAF coming up. Hear them now, and you’ll be able to say, “I know them when they were still….”
