Michaelmas is an age old festival that falls near the Autumnal Equinox. As adults we recognize this as the time when the darkness of night overcomes the light of day. As the leaves fall introspection tends to increase. This darkness can approach our souls as challenges and questioning. Fortunately through inner strength and courage we can transform these challenges into lessons, into blessings for the year to come.
For the children they discover this seasonal journey in the soul pictures of St. Michael, (also known as St. George) encountering the dragon. What they experience here in story form the later adult will refine into the ideals of courage, steadfastness, and service. Through celebrating this festival we wish to provide the students the inner strength and courage holding Michael’s shining sword to tame the dragon and perhaps alter its powers to empower what is good and true.
The Azalea Mountain School community
wishes to invite you to celebrate with us Michaelmas, our fall festival. Please join us for crafts, cider pressing, a brief Michaelmas play, fun, community and a pot-luck. Bring your own plates, utensils and blankets to sit on. No deserts for the potluck this year (that means more food for all). Azalea Mountain School’s grades students will present some of what they have learned this school year. Our “Waldorf Grades Showcase” will include songs and verses that will open a window into what happens in our classrooms. Please invite friends and family to come and see how what we learn is animated by the arts.
